“Stay away from Ortygia Sea View bed and breakfast”
Reviewed August 30, 2012 NEW
I would not recommend you to stay at the Ortygia Sea view bed and breakfast for the folowing reasons:
Location is not very good as it is not in a very safe area of Ortygia.
Building is very scary and in poor condition: cut throat alley, I would call it
Rooms are decent
Bathrooms stink: gutter problem
Towels are changed every 3 days
If you want towels to be changed more frequently : it will cost you 3€ per towel!!!'
Electricity only turns on once you insert the key in the electricity slot which is very inconvenient as air conditioning will not function when you leave your room & if you want to keep water & fruits in your room, this will not work for you.
Breakfast is taken in the landlord's appartment: Mrs Ida Bianca
This is a pain as you are sharing the table with different guests.
For heavy breakfasters, do not expect a huge breakfast
No juice, just the basics: bread, butter and jams which are not homemade contrary to what Ida Bianca is advertising on her site and elsewhere. No product is homemade whatoever.
The most troublesome is Mrs Ida Bianca behaviour who is focused on saving every single penny that she can.
She pretends to be helpful by giving you some tips, recommending some restaurants but she is doing it in such a disgruntled manner that actually you do not want to bother to ask for her help:
We were looking for a restaurant: she explained rapidly how to get there and when we seemed not to understand her explanations, she reacted as if we were idiots!!!
Do not listen to her advice regarding parking: she strongly believes that overnight parking only cost 1€ in covered parking area when it actually costs 3.80€
You can only connect one single computer per room so if you have an Ipad and your wife has a laptop, Mrs Bianca will not authorize you to connect both to the net: it is written on the door "'Please do not insist" !!!
She will not even give you directly the internet login and password: she will type them in herself in your computer so you cannot connect a second computer!!!!!
Mrs Ida Bianca is only focused on herself, trying to make as much money as possibe wirh her little business: she does not really care about her guests: she is fake and is not genuine at all.
Price/ benefit wise, I would strongly advise you to look for a different place especially that your stay over there will be rather expensive : Im a travel agent and I've visited and stayed in thousands of places much nicer than Ortygia Sea view bed and breakfast
For the price you will be paying over there, you will find much nicer locations & will get a  better value.
My review is fair and unbiased and is not based upon the discount level, I could receive from any property.
Definitly stay away from Ortygia Sea view bed and breakfast!

Although a bit difficult ti find as anything in Ortigia would be if you were looking for an address the Sea View was a nice experience. the view of the bay was very good, the room was clean and quiet. It's located in a 5 or 6 story building on the 4th or 5th floor. The elevator can hold 2 people. If you can fit Ortigia into your plans it's well worth it, we only stayed one day but walked the entire city at least 3 times. Many restaurants, old Churches and shops.

This B&B is located on the fourth floor of a large building right on the water with remarkable views, huge rooms, marble floors, lovely antiques, and gracious host, Eda. From our room we watched fishing boats coming in and out, and also had a lovely rooftop view of the city. Ortiega is not exactly an 'island,' though it is a separate patch of land, separated by a canal from Syracuse. It's a lovely place with small walking streets, narrow alleys, quaint shops and drestaurants, clean sea air and friendly people. Our room was huge, large armoire, television, mini-bar, king bed, good bedside lamps and tasteful art prints on the walls. Included was a huge bathroom with shower, bidet and window.

Our hostess, Eda, was gracious and charming and very helpful with everything such as directions and information. Each morning she serves a good Italian breakfast of fruit, homemade breads, and homemade jams. All this at her breakfast table overlooking the harbor.

We highly recommend this stunning setting.
