On our recent trip to Islanbul, we decided to split our time betweem Sultan Ahmd and Beyoglu area (Istiklal Caddesi). For Sultan Ahmed, we chose Ahmetefendievi Guest House based on reviews on the net. Our experience at Ahmetefendievi Guest House turned out to be so much better than the more pricey hotel in Beyoglu in all departments. The location..ah...in the old district with cobbled streets, right next to sea of Marmara, walking dist. from Blue Mosque, Topkapi, Aya Sofia, and most interestingly, in a non-touristy quiet little neighborhood with its own little shops, morning bazaar selling fruits & vegetables, children playing in streets, and women shopping directly from their 2nd floor apartments by pulling up rope and basket. The rooms were a bit small, but clean and comfortable. The best part was the excellent service from a warm and friendly staff. Not only did we get breakfast at our time of choosing, the staff was willing to serve tea, milk, juice at any time of the day. They shifted us from the top floor (with balcony & great view) to a downstairs room when we told them that climbing stairs is a bit problematic for my pregnant wife. They were willing to call a cab for us any time, and offered us good advice on sightseeing and restaurants. All in all, it felt almost like home.
